Willake ~ Goodameavy, Devon.
Client : Private.
Willake is situated in Goodameavy. The name Goodameavy is thought to mean ‘Goda’s settlement by the Meavy’, with Goda being an Old English personal name. The village has a long history with evidence of a settlement dating back to the Medieval period and is also located within the confines of the Dartmoor National park. Drainage work was being carried out in the field behind the property and at some point a J.C.B had accidently hit a wall. We were asked to put it right. So we erected a small tower scaffold to access the work.
The wall in question formed a rounded corner of a walled kitchen garden. Luckily for us only one side of this wall had fallen down. The garden side was still standing. We soon got started on putting the wall back up.
And before long we were at the top.
The top of the wall was capped off to match the existing and then the tower was stripped.
The original stone consisted of a mixture of local slate and granite, and it was all put back using a traditional lime mortar.
