Hill View

Hill View ~ Middlewood, Nr. Launceston, Cornwall.

Client : Private.

We were asked to carry out a small job at Hill View, Middlewood, Cornwall. It involved building a small stone hedge to close of a field entrance that was no longer required.

The stone used was rough hewn granite sourced from a local quarry up the road and matched in with the other walls around this field.

No mortar is used in its construction. The wall consists of two skins of stonework built on a batter, that is to say it is wider at the base and tapers in towards the top. The centre of the wall is rammed with stone and earth. It is not a drystone wall, it is classed as a stone hedge. Traditionally the base for these stone hedges should be as wide as its height and the batter have a slight curve to it.
