Brixton House ~ Brixton, Devon.
Client : Private.
Brixton House is situated in the village of Brixton in the South Hams area of Devon. It was built in the late 18th early 19th centuries and is Grade II listed. The right hand gate pillar of the main entrance was demolished by a delivery lorry and we were asked to put it back.
The pillar was constructed out of Plymouth limestone and a traditional lime mortar was used to re-build it.
The main house had been extended in 1835 for Henry Collins-Splatt who had commissioned architect George Wightwick to draw up the plans. Wightwick was born in Wales and later moved to Plymouth where he worked alongside the renown architect John Foulston. The house today has been converted in to luxury apartments.
